About ISM
Independent Study and Mentorship is an exciting and rigorous class offered at Frisco ISD high schools for juniors and seniors. It gives students the opportunity to conduct independent research within a career field of their choice and acquire the guidance of a professional in the same career field. These mentors assist the student by answering their questions, providing them research tools and materials, and offering in-depth knowledge of their careers and work.

In order to be selected, students must go through an application process offered at their campus during the spring semester. If the student's application is found satisfactory, they are to conduct an interview with the ISM instructor of their school to gain a better understanding of the program and its expectations. After the interview, students will be notified if they qualify for the program and will join the class during the following school year.

Throughout the fall semester, students conduct research based on their career and interview professionals currently working in their fields. Additionally, students are instructed in professional dress, manners, and public speaking to ensure that they are prepared for the numerous interviews and presentations they are expected to do in ISM. During the spring semester, students choose a mentor and begin the development of an Original Work, the culmination of all their efforts and research.
