How has ISM benefitted Shubhi Nanda?
"It has definitively helped me become a better presenter and showed me where my passions are in medicine."
What was a challenge they faced and overcame?
"As a socially-awkward student who was an introvert throughout my early years of elementary and middle school, I faced many difficulties talking to people and doing things that other people find funny since I never understood the logic behind the things done by others in their youth, but the biggest challenge was bullying. I was bullied for my differences as a person and during that period of time, it was hard to come to school every day, knowing that I would be facing a person who constantly harasses and hurts me, making me feel like a nobody. I first succumbed to the bullying, believing that what the bully said was true, that I was nothing but a mass taking up space on this planet and the world would be better without such a useless piece of matter, but over time I realized that succumbing to the bully would only make him stronger and he might hurt other people that might not be as strong as me. Thus, I stood up for myself and I told the teacher; I showed her that this person was bullying me and I poured out my heart and soul out addressing the problem and how I was treated by the bully. The teacher understood and helped to resolve the bullying. This experience taught me that even when you think that all hope is lost in a negative world, there is always something to keep you going. The sinking of a boat does not mean that the passengers will not survive."
Advice
"What you do in ISM is helpful, but it is not the end all be all. You can use ISM as a stepping stone to your future careers and learn more through it, but even if that mentorship doesn't turn out the way you want it to, or that final project is not your best, do not worry. There is still time and you grew throughout your journey within it."

Mentorship Contribution
"Of the numerous professionals that I interviewed, Dr. Barisa gave me the most insight into the field of neuropsychology. He is extremely knowledgeable about the field of neuropsychology and has a kind and compassionate personality, making him a people-person, which is something in the world that in today’s time is very scarce. I am very thankful for Dr. Barisa agreeing to be my mentor and I learned a lot about the field of medicine through him as well as learning about how I should go about with bedside manner and helping others. It is because of Dr. Barisa that I decided to continue with my passion for neuroscience."
