How has ISM benefitted Erika Serrano?
"ISM has allowed me to continue shadowing surgeons and provide opportunities to travel abroad with them."
What was a challenge they faced and overcame?
"A challenge that I have faced in ISM was procrastination. I was on top of everything in the beginning with finding a mentor fairly quickly and shadowing 2 surgeons every week. I started procrastinating towards the end of the school year and put off assignments for the last minute. It may not seem like a big challenge, but this was something that I started struggling with and noticed it carrying onto different aspects of my life. Mr. Pirtle was kind enough to help me through every step of the way and keep me in check."
Advice
"Things will get difficult but it’s important that you do not give up easily. Don’t be afraid to ask anyone for help and stay focused on your goals."
