How has ISM benefitted Jonathan Latta?
"Gave me confidence in speaking with professionals as well as an introduction to the design process (through my topic of study) that gives me an edge in my major."
What was a challenge they faced and overcame?
"I overcame the challenge of my original work not working like it was intended to because of one mistake early on in the fabrication. Along with my mentor, we changed our plan and made it work as best as we could."
Advice
"Don't be too attached to continuing the same topic in ISM 2, or stress too much about what topic you are choosing to study. The process ISM takes you through is applicable to everyone, and things I learned in ISM studying Lutherie applied directly to Architecture. If I could tell myself one thing, it would be to widen my topic to product design rather than Lutherie, but hindsight is 20/20. Try your best, and don't let the fear of making the wrong decision hold you back from committing to it."
Guys Building Guitars Club

About Guys Building Guitars Club
"This is a local group of guitar builders, that donate their built guitars to charity events as well as sharing trade secrets, building tips, and stories."
Mentorship Contribution
"This group of luthiers took me into many of their home shops and let me see how they approached the design and fabrication process. This was very formative for me learning to love the art of design, leading me to study Architecture at Texas A&M."
